REVIEW
OF HARD DRIVE MECHANIC DELUXE
"My hard drive
crashed!"
This is probably the most feared nightmare for anyone who
uses a
computer. How many people can honestly say that all of
their data and
information can be restored at any moment in time. This
program claims
that it can restore your computer back to normal in
minutes. The key to
remember is that this program recovers from most
software-related hard
drive crashes. I do not know of any program that will
repair a physical
hard drive failure.
Customer support for
Hard Drive
Mechanic Deluxe was found to be excellent. I made two
calls to customer
support and received an excellent response on both
counts. You will
leave a message on their answering machine and they will
call you
back.
TESTS PERFORMED
Test 1: I did a FDISK on a partition to
remove the
partition. Upon rebooting you should get "non-system
disk
error" or in my case some kind of generic
nondescript number.
Scary!
At this point you usually put on a pot of coffee and get
ready for an
all nighter. Instead you boot to a bootable floppy and
run HDM
Deluxe.
When you run diagnostic you will be informed that the
partition is
bad.
Next, click on the repair button and this will write the
new partition
down to the drive.
Voila!, the machine rebooted without a hitch. - Time,
about ten minutes.
Test 2:
Next I formatted
the drive. This time I got a different error message
"invalid
system disk-replace the disk and then press any
key". Enough to
make your heart go pitter patter. Upon running HDM
Deluxe diagnostic I was informed that the FAT is
bad.
Next click on 'File System' then go to FAT chain.
Then click on the button that says repair FAT/ROOT.
When the machine reboots off of a floppy all the data was
there.
- Time, about ten minutes.
Test 3: On
this test all
I did was repeat test 1 and 2 together to see if I could
recover. I
booted off a floppy, ran FDISK, removed a partition, then
created a
partition. After rebooting I formatted C drive.
I was able to bring it all back.
MY IMPRESSIONS:
Words can not express how impressed I am with this
program. I just I
wish I had HDM
Deluxe in the past to bring hard drive back. I plan
to keep this
program readily accessible because some day (like every
hard drive in
the world) my hard drive will crash. One very important
feature that
needs emphasizing is that this program is not limited to
one system. It
comes on a 3.5-inch floppy and all of the tests I have
done were made on
a disk copy of the original master. I have tested HDM
Deluxe on my two home systems and my work computer.
It is truly
amazing that so much power can come on just a 3.5-inch
floppy. This is a
must have program for anyone that wants that extra
security and peace of
mind.

"Just wanted to
add my name to
your long list of success stories. The Chernobyl virus
wiped me out last
week. Scrambled my FAT and left me a broken man. Through
a Network
Associates Inc chat line about the virus, I connected
with someone who
suggested your product. In desperation I ran to the store
and snagged a
copy. In less than an hour, I had regained 90% of my
files. I estimate
the value of the recovered data to be right around $5000.
Your product
was a lifesaver (not the candy). Thanks for doing it
right!"
